Double Exposure:

Contrasting the Pain of Addiction with the Visible Joy of Sobriety
A PhotoVoice Journey

Presented at the Road to Recovery 10th Anniversary Fundraiser Dinner – September 19, 2026

This video is a deeply personal look at the path from darkness into light; addiction into recovery.  The road is long and hard—a complete shift in how these brave individuals see the world and themselves.

What you are about to watch is a Photovoice presentation: a collection of photographs, images, or paintings with phrases created by individuals who have walked this road of addiction recovery.  Each person credited with initials in the video was asked to share two distinct chapters of his or her life.

First, you will see snapshots encapsulating the reality of how active addiction affected each life and what it felt like for the individual. These images represent the isolation, the fog, and the exhaustion of the struggle.  Sometimes, even being brought back from death to life.

But the story does not end there.

Immediately following each of these moments, you will see the second photo.  This is the view from the other side.  This is what recovery feels like.  It is a visual testament to clarity, connection, purpose, and hope.

People thriving in recovery and affiliated with the Red Tulip Project submitted the ideas, images, and drawings.  Others came from authors whose names we don’t know, but whose silent struggles are captured in these photos.

Special thanks to Nicho Lah for producing the video.  Narration by Nicho Lah and Kristy Mowry.  And to everyone in recovery who made this video possible.  Your voice matters.

Please remember that your support is what helps bridge the gap between these two pictures.  Your donation makes the second photo possible for so many still searching for the road back.
