Memorial Day Weekend is often associated with patriotic parades, backyard barbecues, and time spent with family and friends. Girl Scout Troop #70591 from South Euclid volunteered to spend part of their holiday weekend helping residents of Red Tulip Project’s Monarch Meadow House plant several raised beds.
The project was a collaborative effort between board members of the Red Tulip Project, Kathy Cole, Girl Scout Troop #70591 Leader and Master Gardener Cathy Wheeler, and Erin Mooneesawmy, Re-Entry Case Manager at Family Pride of Northeast Ohio and founder of Urban Gardener and Friends, an organization which promotes self sufficiency and gardening education in urban spaces. Matt Cole, Director of Administration for the Ohio Turnpike Commission, also helped a great deal on the project.
Starr Farm, located in Huntsburg, donated a variety of vegetables and herbs that, with care, will provide tenants of Monarch Meadow House with fresh food throughout the summer. Nancy Williams Bushman donated two flats of native flowering plants to beautify and help attract pollinators to the garden.
